About the Role

The Mayor of Darwen is the civic head of Darwen Town Council, elected annually by fellow councillors at the Annual General Meeting. The Mayor chairs full council meetings, represents Darwen at civic and community events, and supports local charitable causes through the Mayor’s chosen charities for the year.

What the Mayor Does

  • Chairs all full council meetings and ensures proceedings run in accordance with Standing Orders
  • Represents the town at civic, ceremonial and community events across Darwen and the wider borough
  • Supports and promotes the Mayor’s chosen charities throughout the mayoral year
  • Acts as a point of contact for residents wishing to raise matters of civic importance
  • Signs official council documents and correspondence on behalf of the council

Jonathan's chosen charity for his mayoral year is Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide — the UK's leading charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people.
